Car Accident Lawsuits: 2015 Year in Review
January 12, 2016
As Houston car accident lawyers, we regularly write about issues affecting victims of vehicle collisions in the Houston area and throughout Texas. With 2015 in the books, we want to remind our readers about some of the biggest stories we covered throughout the year. Click the links below to revisit some of our most popular articles from 2015, and stay tuned as we cover the most important developments in Texas car accident law during 2016.
1. The Takata Airbag Recall
One of the biggest stories of 2015 was undoubtedly the Takata airbag recall. In February, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) began fining Takata $14,000 per day for failing to cooperate in the agency’s investigation into the company’s defective airbags. When Takata finally acknowledged the issue in May, five people the United States were dead, and an estimated 34 million vehicles were being recalled for replacement airbags. The recall expanded further in November, and by the end of the year, eight deaths were linked to Takata’s faulty airbags. Replacements are not expected to be completed until 2019.
2. Texas Car Accidents Making Headlines in 2015
Someone died in a motor vehicle accident every single day in 2014. If the headlines are any indication, we may see similar statistics once they’ve been determined for 2015. In July, we posted our 2015 Mid-Year Review of Causes of Auto Accidents in Texas. Then, in September, we covered a wave of deadly accidents that swept across the state. We covered the Tracy Morgan crash and a number of fatal truck and bus accidents as well.
3. The Dangers of Drunk and Distracted Driving
Drunk driving and distracted driving are both extremely dangerous. This should not come as a surprise to anyone; but, unfortunately, hundreds of thousands of people continue to drink, talk and text behind the wheel. In 2015 we covered these issues from three different angles:
- Which is More Dangerous: Drunk Driving or Distracted Driving?
- What Do I Do if I Was Hit by a Drunk Driver?
- What are My Rights if I Was Injured by a Distracted Driver?
4. Understanding Your Rights if You Were Partially at Fault in the Accident
While we most often write about the liability of the people who harm our clients, the reality is that sometimes accident victims are partially responsible for their own injuries. In What if I was Partially at Fault in Causing a Vehicle Collision?, we discussed how car accident victims may be able to claim compensation even if they contributed to causing the collision.
5. Mistakes that Can Wreck Your Car Accident Claim
Finally, we finished out the year with a two-part series on what not to do if you have been involved in a vehicle collision. In Mistakes that Can Wreck Your Car Accident Claim, we covered 10 common mistakes that can prevent victims from recovering maximum compensation for their injuries:
- Mistakes that Can Wreck Your Car Accident Claim – Part 1
- Mistakes that Can Wreck Your Car Accident Claim – Part 2
