What Is The Eagle Ford Shale?

The Eagle Ford Shale is a Texas oil and gas geological formation. The Eagle Ford Shale is 50 miles wide and 400 miles long. It is 250 feet thick and 4,000-12,000 feet below ground. It stretches from the Mexican border into East Texas. It was created when a giant forest was buried 100 million years ago.

Petrohawk drilled the first Eagle Ford well in 2008. Since then, the number of producing oil leases in the Eagle Ford Shale has grown, as follows:
