7 CenterPoint Workers Injured in Klein Gas Line Explosion
March 8, 2021
On March 5th, 2021, at around 6:00 p.m., 7 CenterPoint Energy workers were injured in a massive gas explosion. It occurred in the 18700 block of Gleannloch Lakes Boulevard near Klein, Texas.
A Comcast crew was in the area working when they accidentally punctured a gas line, according to the Harris County Fire Marsha’s Office. CenterPoint Energy workers were then sent to fix the line. As they were about to leave, workers inadvertently hit a 6-inch high-pressure natural gas line, which is considered a main line. That gas line erupted into a massive gas explosion that prompted the authorities to evacuate over 100 people from nearby homes. Fortunately, no homes were damaged from the explosion.
According to ABC News, all seven of the injured were CenterPoint Energy workers, who suffered second and third-degree burns as a result of the explosion. A firefighter was also injured and treated at the scene.
