Houston ReadyRefresh Water Truck Crash Leaves Elderly Woman Dead

A ReadyRefresh water truck caused a fatal T-bone accident at the intersection of North Gessner and US 290 Northwest Freeway in Humble, Texas late in the morning on May 20, 2019.

3 Vehicles Involved in Houston Water Truck Accident

According to police, the driver of the ReadyRefresh water truck was northbound on the feeder road near Gessner around 11:40 a.m. when the driver ran a red light and slammed into the right side of a silver GMC pickup truck in the intersection.

Wrecker drivers in the area spotted the crash and pulled the water truck away from the mangled pickup truck so firefighters could work to extricate the victims, police said.

Elderly Woman and the Driver of the Pickup Truck Rushed to Nearby Hospital

A 79-year-old woman in the passenger side of the pickup truck was tragically killed during the accident, she was later pronounced dead at a nearby hospital. The driver of the pickup truck suffered life-threatening injuries, police said.

ReadyRefresh Water Truck Crash Remains Under Investigation

ReadyRefresh is a bottled water & beverage delivery service operated by Nestlé Waters North America.

Investigators are looking at speed as a factor in the crash. The district attorney’s office said the driver of the water truck is expected to face at least a traffic citation and possibly additional charges.

Investigators are also expected to look at camera footage from the water truck’s cabin.

“Earlier (Monday), a ReadyRefresh truck was involved in a multi-vehicle accident at the intersection of North Gessner and US 290 Northwest Freeway in Humble, Texas. Our hearts go out to the family and friends of the individual who lost their life, and everyone who was involved in the accident. At Nestlé Waters North America, safety is one of our top priorities, and we are investigating the matter further to understand what happened. We are cooperating fully with law enforcement.”
