Your Nissan SUV may pose a fire risk to you and your family

Nissan’s Recall of Nearly 240,000 SUV’s

Nissan has recalled nearly 215,000 SUV’s according to reports. Why?  Well, apparently certain 2015 to 2017 Nissan Murano’s, 2016 and 2017 Nissan Maxima’s, 2017 through 2018 Nissan Pathfinder’s, and 2017 Infiniti QX60 vehicles have an anti-lock brake pump that could leak brake fluid onto circuit boards, causing an electrical short and an increased fire risk. Per Nissan, if you see the anti-lock warning lamp for more than 10 seconds after starting the engine, you should not drive the vehicle and should park it outdoors.

According to estimates from Nissan, more than have of the vehicles identified above have the problem (which was traced to faulty seals around the anti-lock brake pump).

This is Not a New Problem For Nissan

According to reports, some Nissan Muranos were recalled for the same problem in 2016. Despite that recall, it appears the problem has persisted and sprung up in other Nissan models.

What Should You Do?

Documents posted earlier today to the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) do not state whether there have been any fires.  However, if you are concerned your car may be a fire hazard, you can visit the NHTSA’s website and enter your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN).  Unfortunately, it appears you may have to wait to have your brake pump replaced as dealers will not be inspecting pump serial numbers or replacing defective brake pumps until October 15, 2018.

If your car is affected by the recall, you most likely will not need to pay for the mechanical work related to the recall repair.
