What Is The Haynesville Shale?
The Haynesville/Bossier Shale is an oil and gas formation located in northwestern Louisiana, southwestern Arkansas and eastern Texas. It is named after the town of Haynesville in Claiborne Parish, Louisiana. In 2008, oil and gas operators utilizing horizontal drilling and fracking first realized that the Haynesville Shale was commercially viable if newer drilling and completion techniques were used.
